Awais Qadir is the founder and CEO of Pakistan-based start-up Qadir Materials Tech Pvt. Ltd. From June 2022, he will be working as a Researcher at the Institute of Materials Science, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany. In Germany, he will be working to develop new nanostructured nitride hard materials.

His journey with materials science started in 2008 when he got admitted to BSc metallurgy & materials engineering at the University of the Punjab, Lahore Pakistan. Of course, it was totally a new journey for him, he had an opportunity to learn a variety of subjects from extractive metallurgy to iron and steel making process, then physical metallurgy to shaping alloys, from processing to preservation of metals from corrosion and last but not least, surface engineering including coatings. As this field of study enhanced his curiosity about materials’ wonder, he went to the National University of Science & Technology “MISiS”, Moscow Russia and studied Master's in Advanced Materials Science. In Moscow, he worked in developing alternative materials for automotive piston applications, he proposed an alternative material based on Al-5%Cu with ceramic particulates as reinforcements for automotive piston applications.  He also worked at Materials Research Technology (MRT), Luxembourg Institute of Science & Technology (LIST). There, he started working in oxide ceramics thin films by a chemical vapour deposition method, he developed thin films of V2O5 and VO2, it turned out that V2O5 has a thermochromic behaviour, it changes colour upon heating and vice versa. Then he got a PhD position at Obuda University and worked in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Slovak Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jan Dusza. His PhD thesis was in Silicon nitride ceramics with the addition of CNTs/Graphene.

He has experience in metal casting, thin film deposition and powder metallurgical techniques.
His ambition is to serve mankind with his scientific work. He aims to excel in the field of ceramics and to develop next-generation advanced ceramics for extreme applications.
