11/24 - SFS Webinar
The 4th Free Webinar organised by the International Alliance of Societies for a Sustainable Future (SFS) will be organised on 8th November 2024 at 2 PM CEST and will be resented by Katharina Habersbrunner, Bündnis Bürgerenergie e.V.
The shift from centralized, fossil fuel-based energy systems to decentralized, renewable energy systems present a significant global challenge. However, it also opens up opportunities for innovative solutions such as citizen energy and energy communities. These community-driven initiatives have the potential to revolutionize the energy sector by decentralizing and democratizing energy production and consumption. Citizen Energy enables individuals, small and medium-sized businesses, and local organizations to actively participate in energy production and consumption.
This approach empowers people to take control of their energy needs and contribute to a moresustainable future.
Energy Communities involve the collective management of energy production, storage, and distribution. They offer services or other benefits to their members or the local community. By operating sustainably, energy communities foster social innovation, generate environmental benefits, and create economic value.
In the European Union, the European Renewable Energy Directive and the European Electricity Market Design provide a supportive framework for establishing and operating energy communities. This regulatory environment encourages the growth of these initiatives, helping to address the energy transition while promoting sustainability and community involvement.
