YCN Newsletter 24 - Letter from Joanna Tanska

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as a new member of the Young Ceramists Network Committee.

3 Joanna Tanska Dear YCN Community,

My name is Joanna Tańska, and I am a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). I conduct my research under the supervision of Professor Paulina Wiecinska. I am also a proud member of the Polish Ceramic Society. My academic journey began with completing both my Engineer's and Master's Degrees in Chemical Technology at WUT, and now, as a PhD researcher, I focus on fabrication of ceramic-metal composites using both traditional colloidal processing methods (slip casting, gelcasting and tape casting) and additive manufacturing techniques (DLP – Digital Light Processing and DIW – Direct Ink Writing). Specifically, I am working on ceramic-metal nanocomposites in which the matrix is alumina or zirconia and the metallic phase is molybdenum or nickel. These materials can find applications in anti-corrosion covers, construction material in nuclear power plants or cutting tools with increased durability. Throughout my PhD, I had the opportunity to gain scientific experience during a 3-month internship at the National Institute for Material Science in Tsukuba, Japan and a 1-month internship at the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées in Lyon, France.

The first time I heard about YCN was during the CYSC conference in Serbia in 2021. I remember being impressed by the enthusiasm, kindness and sense of community among the young ceramists, which I experienced also later, during many other conferences organized by ECerS. It is inspiring to see how this network can bring people together to share ideas, collaborate and make new friendships. That’s why I decided to be more involved and became the Polish YCN Representative. Now, as a Committee member, I am truly honored to continue building a vibrant and supportive network for young ceramists worldwide.

Best wishes,

Joanna
