Obituary - Academician Vladimir Shevchenko
We are sorry to inform the community that Academician Vladimir Shevchenko, Fellow of ECerS, President of the Russian Ceramic Society and member of the ECerS Council, passed away on 14th May 2025.
Vladimir Shevchenko was an outstanding Russian chemist, Deputy Chairman of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of the Department of Chemistry and Materials Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on ceramic materials, member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Inorganic Chemistry, Chairman of the National Glass Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Russian Ceramic Sosiety.
Vladimir Shevchenko has made significant contributions in the field of structural chemistry and chemical materials science. The results obtained with his participation and under his leadership were implemented in industrial companies and formed the basis of new directions in the chemistry of ceramic materials. His work on technical ceramics and the development of ceramic and composite materials technologies has made him a recognized leader in these fields.
Vladimir Shevchenko’s achievements in science have been recognized by numerous government, international, industry and public awards.
In 2015, Academician V. Shevchenko was recognised by the European Ceramic Society as Fellow of ECerS and was elected a member of the Advisory Board of the World Academy of Ceramics (WAC Advisory Board) for 2014‒2018. In 1998‒2001, Shevchenko served as President of the World Academy of Ceramics.
We will remember him not only as a great scientist, but also as a deeply decent, broad-minded person with a caring and attentive attitude towards people.
