Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Ceramics

Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences- University of Modena and Reggio Emilia

Director : Prof. Maria Franca Brigatti

Research topics :

  • Characterization of materials: as pigments for ceramic Inks, raw materials for ceramic body and glazes
  • Characterization of defects: on ceramic products and plant materials
  • Functionalization of ceramic surfaces : to obtain, through the utilization of propter nano particles, self-cleaning effects, self-hygienizing effects, photo-catalytic effects etc.
  • Characterization of hot and cold emissions : to study and help to prevent indoor and outdoor pollution

Utilized techniques: X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM, ESEM, EDS), Inductively Coupled Plasma (AOS-ICP),  UV-vis, FTIR and MicRaman Spectroscopies, Thermal Analysis (TGA, DTA, TMA), Chromatography as GC-MS, HPLC-MS, IC.

Why Crystal Structure Matters: Decoding the Performance of Calcium Phosphate Biomaterials

In the world of calcium phosphate biomaterials, crystal structure is often the silent driver behind a material’s success—or failure. Whether we are developing bone graft substitutes or studying bioceramic interactions at the tissue interface, understanding the underlying crystal lattice isn’t just helpful—it’s essential.
