  • Black glasses as bulk and coatings on metallic substrates for various applications: Designing and structural studies of amorphous SiOC materials obtained by various methods (sol-gel, CVD, 3D printing) for bone tissue engineering, catalysis and corrosion protection.
  • Silicate and phosphate-silicate bioactive glasses: Design and studies of melt-derived and sol – gelderived glasses for biological applications.

  • Polymer derived ceramics - boron, iron and zinc modified silicon oxycarbide materials for catalysis and energy storage applications: Sol-gel synthesis, structural and microstructural studies of porous and bulk preceramic ladder-like silsesquioxanes as well as heat treated Si(B,Fe,Zn)OC ceramic materials.

  • Design and synthesis of functional porous materials: for catalystis, electrocatalysis, energy storage and optics based on nanoparticles in the form of thin films, coatings, powders and free-standing membranes and monoliths (e.g. YAG:Ce, IrO2, Li4Ti5O12, TiO2, SiO2, Ir, Rh, Ru). Strong emphasis on the processing methods of colloids.

  • Coatings based on Polymer Derived Ceramics: Optimization of coatings production including sol-gel synthesis, various deposition techniques (dip- and spin-coating, electrophoretic deposition), thermal treatment (annealing temperature, heating curve) with a subsequent determination of their structure (GIXRD, FTIR, Raman, EDS), microstructure (SEM, AFM) and following properties:
    - Bioactivity, biocompatibility, wettability and surface free energy for medical applications (SiOC and
    SiPOC glasses),
    - Resistance to corrosive environment at high temperatures for applications in power engineering and
    automotive industries (SiOC and SiAlOC glasses).

  • 3D printing of ceramic - materials for tissue engineering and catalysis: Preparation of polymerderived ceramic scaffolds with designed architecture. Direct methods based on the crosslinking of
    synthesized photopolymers using digital light processing (DLP) and the extrusion of paste materials
    using direct ink writing (DIW). Indirect method based on polymer matrices prepared by fused
    deposition modeling (FDM).

  • Laboratory of molecular spectroscopy (FT-IR - KBr or PE pellet, DRS and DRIFT, ATR with diamond, ZnSe or KRS-5 crystals, temperature measurements up to 700°C; Raman - mapping, temperature measurements up to 1500°C) equipped with:

  • Laboratory of thermal processing equipped with:
    - Nabertherm HT04/17 and L08/14 high temperature chamber furnaces (heating up to 1750°C);

    - Thermo Fisher Scientific Phenom XL Scanning Electron Microscope;
    - Leica EM ACE200 vacuum coater;
    - Bruker MultiMode 8 Atomic Force Microscope;
  • Organosilicon Thin Film Laboratory equipped with:
    - UHV system with 3·10-10 mbar base pressure, equipped with low temperature effusion cell dedicated
    for organic materials evaporation, e-beam evaporation source for metallic materials, RF plasma
    source and ion gun for sputtering. Facility is constantly under the development.
