-
Design of inorganic/hybrid porous membranes: Research focusses on the controlled synthesis, development and understanding of novel hybrid, and inorganic/ceramic porous membranes with specific microstructural, composition and morphological properties. These membranes find application in the treatment of industrial effluents as well as in gas separation. The work is divided in three main research lines, which refer to the different thematic areas:
1. Surface modification of porous ceramic membranes2. Shaping of porous structures
3. 2D/3D structures.

Electrochemical research group: Research within this theme encompasses the study of fast ionic and mixed ionic-electronic transport in condensed phases and associated interfacial/electrode reactions. Essential to this research is the development of a fundamental understanding of the relationships between material characteristics, such as crystal structure, composition, defect chemistry and microstructure, and material properties related to diffusion of ionic and electronic species. Main interest is focused to the fundamentals of technological applications, such as dense ceramic membranes, which are 100 % selective for oxygen or hydrogen transport, and the solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC).
