Maria Mykland is a PhD-candidate in the FACET-research group  at the Department of Material Science and Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Her project is a collaboration between NTNU, Fiven Norge and Technical University of Denmark (DTU). The project is focusing on 3D-prinitng of Silicon Carbide, SiC, by using VAT technology, the aim is to investigate how these types of processes can be optimized for SiC. VAT technology is based on monomers that can be polymerised when they are exposed to UV-light, and to have a successful print, these monomers must be mixed with ceramic powders to make a green body. It is a challenge to use these types of techniques with SiC because of the materials high refractive index, hence the incoming UV-light will be scattered to some degree. The goal is to describe and explain the whole process from the polymerization to the final densification, in regal to both chemical and physical reactions.

Background
Maria Mykland has a Master in Chemistry from the University of Oslo, within the field inorganic material synthesis. The title of her work is "Synthesis and characterizations of Zeotype materials with an AFI-type structure". The aim if the project was to synthesize AlPO-5 crystals with a variating length and investigate how parameters like concentration and ageing influenced the synthesis gel and the crystal morphology.
Maria also has a Bachelor in geology, specialised in minerology and geochemistry from the University of Oslo.
