My professional trajectory at Institute of Space Technology in Islamabad, Pakistan, as an assistant professor reflects a steadfast commitment to the field of materials science and engineering. My specialized focus revolves around biomaterials and the creation of cutting-edge coatings. My academic journey is enriched by industrial experience gained at Millat Tractors, a leading agricultural machinery manufacturer in Lahore, Pakistan, where I worked from February 2010 to August 2013. My recent accomplishment includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art Biomaterials Lab at IST, equipped with comprehensive in-vitro and in-vivo characterization facilities for advanced biomaterials. My research focuses on the development and characterization of bioactive and antibacterial materials, a thematic thread evident in many of my impactful publications.
I successfully earned my PhD in Materials Science from the esteemed University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, in 2018. My expertise lies in the intricate field of Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD), particularly focusing on the application of biopolymeric coatings onto metallic substrates for biomedical applications. My research extends to diverse areas, including 3D printing and electrospinning of biopolymers for soft tissue engineering applications. Throughout my career, I have contributed significantly to the scientific community through the publication of impactful articles in renowned journals, such as International Materials Reviews, Acta Biomaterialia, ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering, Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, Ceramics International, and more. The cumulative citations of my work have surpassed 1000 since 2013, reflecting the influence and relevance of my research.
I actively participate in conferences and seminars to share my research findings and engage with the global scientific community. Notably, I presented an oral presentation and a poster at the 6th International Conference on electrophoretic deposition (EPD 2017) in Gyeongju, South Korea. My oral presentation focused on "Electrophoretic deposition of lawsone loaded nano bioactive glass/chitosan composite on PEELK/BG layers," while the poster highlighted "Antibacterial and bioactive coatings based on electrophoretic deposition of chitosan/bioactive glass/lawsone on PEEK/bioactive glass layers." I was honored with the second prize in the student contest during this conference. Additionally, I have been an invited speaker and keynote lecturer at over 10 national and international conferences.
I published a review article in the high-impact factor journal "Progress in Materials Science." My research has resulted in approximately 75 refereed publications, with a total citation count of 1810 and an h-index of 23 (Google Scholar®). In addition to journal articles, I have authored 5 book chapters and presented 7 conference papers. I actively contribute to the scholarly community by serving on the reviewer board for prestigious journals, including ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Materials Letters, Surface and Coating Technology, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Coatings, Materials, International Journal of Molecular Science, Prosthesis, Acta Biomaterialia, etc. Acknowledging my contributions to the field of material chemistry, I was awarded a free membership of the "American Chemical Society."
My leadership is evident in successfully spearheading numerous projects funded by both international and national grants. Noteworthy among them is the International Collaborative Research Grant (ICRG-2020) securing 95 million PKR from the British Council, the National Injury Research Competition (NIRC-2021) with funding of 2.1 million PKR from The Agha Khan University hospital (in collaboration with the National Institute of Health, USA), and the Start-up Research Grant (SRGP-2019) securing 0.45 million PKR, each demonstrating my ability to secure and manage diverse funding sources.
My professional journey embodies a relentless pursuit of excellence in materials science and engineering. From obtaining a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg to contributing substantially to biomaterials research through high-impact publications and leading funded projects, I have consistently strived to push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation. As a reviewer for esteemed journals and a member of the American Chemical Society, I actively engage with the scientific community. My hands-on industrial experience at Millat Tractors has enriched my practical insight. Establishing the Biomaterials Lab at IST underscores my commitment to advancing research capabilities. With a strong foundation in bioactive and antibacterial materials, I look forward to furthering my contributions to the field, fostering academic growth, and driving impactful research initiatives.
