YCN representative for the Chinese Ceramic Society

Belgian Ceramic Research Centre (the next stop not sure yet)

Hello everyone! I’m Dr. Qirong CHEN. I worked at Belgian Ceramic Research Centre (BCRC) and Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF), meanwhile, I’m also one part of team DOC-3D-PRINTING. It’s my pleasure and I’m glad to be chosen to represent the Young Cearmists Network in China. And this would be a fantastic chance and bridge for us to have more scientific communication and networking with young ceramists in China!

The research of my Ph.D. is based on binder jetting process with ceramics on the customized machine. Briefly speaking, it is mainly composed by 3 sections. Firstly, we have built a recipe as an aid in understanding the influence of powder properties and processing parameters, and provides general guidelines to rapidly develop ceramic powders for binder jetting process. Then the infiltration was conducted with ceramic suspension to further densify the printed porous parts. Most interesting part is that the pulsed laser was used to perform laser ablation on printed part in each layer, while the target was to refine the surface roughness which is one of the main disadvantages of binder jetting process.

When I discussed with YCN committee members, I have found that all of them are enthusiastic and interesting. They have done a lot to bring young ceramists closer and made numerous scientific activities in Europe. I’m always wondering whether there will be a chance to connect with colleagues in China as well into this big family. Therefore, we have also collaborated one time in 2021 to have a webinar with invited speakers from China about Additive Manufacturing! Nice start! In future, I will still try my best to provide new ideas and organize events, functioning my “bridging effect”. Looking forward to your participation! See you!
