YCN Newsletter 18 - Report on the 2023 Lyon ECerS Career Fair by Sylvain Meille
On Monday July 3, 2023, the first ECerS Career Fair was held in Lyon as part of the XVIIIth ECerS Conference and Exhibition.
The aim of this event, sponsored by Saint-Gobain, was not only to display job vacancies in companies working in the ceramics field, but also to facilitate contacts between doctoral students and post-docs working in ceramics and companies in the sector. This has several positive benefits:
- it strengthens the ceramics sector in Europe, both for industry and for universities;
- the majority of doctoral students go on to work in the private sector after their thesis, a sector which offers a wide variety of careers.
After presentations by Saint Gobain and YCN, all participants (representatives of over 10 companies, over 150 doctoral students) gathered for a buffet. This networking event was a real success, and we'd like to thank everyone involved in its organization (congress organizers, including the PCO, Saint Gobain, YCN, and the companies who agreed to take part).
We hope this career fair will be the first of many in future ECerS events.
For the organization,
Sylvain Meille

Why Crystal Structure Matters: Decoding the Performance of Calcium Phosphate Biomaterials
In the world of calcium phosphate biomaterials, crystal structure is often the silent driver behind a material’s success—or failure. Whether we are developing bone graft substitutes or studying bioceramic interactions at the tissue interface, understanding the underlying crystal lattice isn’t just helpful—it’s essential.
