YCN Newsletter 19 - Letter by Erkka Frankberg
Dear Young Ceramists Network,
I want to wish you the very best end-of-the-year, to be spent with family, friends, and, of course, your YCN colleagues.
I was recently selected as the leader of The Young Ceramists and Training -working group of the European Ceramic Society, during the memorable ECerS 2023 conference in Lyon. This working group has few major functions, including overseeing and reporting the work of the Young Ceramists Network to the ECerS Permanent Executive Committee and to the Council of ECerS. In addition, the working group organizes the traditional Student Speech Contest, typically held during the biannual ECerS conference. I follow Andraz Kocjan to this position, and I would like to extend my gratitude for all the help and support he has given to the Young Researchers, to find their way forward in the current hypercompetitive academic world. In these times, it is already difficult enough to support yourself. Therefore, devoting time to help also others is a great virtue. Kippis ja kiitos Andraz!
During my tenure, I wish to keep the torch burning, and working together the awesome YCN committee, we will continue to bring you opportunities to build your career, and professional networks, and to give visibility to your work. And perhaps most importantly, we wish to give you special evenings where you can, for a fleeing moment, forget all the hardships endured and raise a toast with friends for all the great work you have done!
Today, networking is essential to move forward in your research and professional careers. It can be a risk to collaborate with new people, however, if successful, it might be the turning point of your career, and the start of a life-long friendship. You are the future leaders, dare to step up!
Happy holiday season to you all, and see you in the next YCN event!
All the best,
Erkka Frankberg
