YCN Newsletter 19 - Letter by Danica Piper
The YCN committee recently welcomed a new member, MSc Danica Piper.
Danica is a third-year doctoral student at the Department of Materials Engineering at the Faculty of Technology in Novi Sad. Her research focuses on ultrathin ceramic films for applications in microelectronics, and she has recently integrated quantum mechanical calculations as the theoretical background for her experimental work. Below is her welcoming letter to our community:
Dear Ceramic community,
I am thrilled to announce my new role as a member of the YCN committee. I want to thank you for trusting me and assure you of my dedication to our mutual goals with professionalism and diligence. Having followed the work of YCN for some time and acknowledging the significant contributions made by the previous activities to the ceramic community, I am eager to contribute my own efforts. I am delighted to have the opportunity to do so. Young scientists are the nucleus of scientific and industrial community growth, and their networking and mutual support are vital for their advancement. As I come from the Balkan region, one of my goals is to contribute to the betterment of the ceramic community in this part of Europe. Promoting and acquainting young individuals from the region with the activities and opportunities offered by YCN will undoubtedly enhance better contacts, collaboration, and consequently, progress within the entire regional and, subsequently, European community.
Additionally, gender equality remains an issue in our scientific community. Therefore, I aim to direct my actions within the community towards encouraging and supporting young female scientists to improve this situation and ensure an equal contribution to scientific growth and development.
My professional basketball career has taught me much about the importance of teamwork and the synergy among individuals working towards a common goal. I believe this experience is valuable for the work of the YCN committee and will aid in collective efforts, a broad perspective on community needs, and directing energy towards achieving our goals.
I am immensely looking forward to the upcoming challenges and am available for any questions, ideas, or suggestions!
Together, let's strive for excellence and drive positive change within our community.
