yCAM 2024 - Short report from Valeria Diamanti from the participant's point of view
I am Valeria Diamanti, an industrial bioengineer, now first-year Ph.D. student in Materials Engineering at the University of Padova. I am currently working on the additive manufacturing of advanced ceramics supported by novel silicone-based emulsions, with particular interest in ceramic materials employed in the biomedical field. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Young Ceramists Additive Manufacturing Forum (yCAM) 2024, held at Tampere University, Finland from May 6-8th. It was a perfect combination of high-quality scientific projects and a fresh, informal and friendly atmosphere, resulting as the ideal conference for young researchers engaging with this type of event for the first time. During those days, I had the pleasure to present my Ph.D. research on “Direct Ink Writing of mullite scaffolds from novel silicone based emulsions” and receive many valuable feedback and insights which will undoubtedly benefit my ongoing research and future career.
I also had the opportunity to listen to numerous high-level scientific presentations, covering a broad range of topics within the field of ceramic materials, and to discuss about many interesting projects during the poster session. In fact, I particularly appreciated the informal setting of yCAM which encouraged open dialogue and provided a great opportunity to share and gain innovative ideas. More importantly, for me it was a great opportunity to network with many young researchers from all over the world and spend a lot of time with my Italian colleagues from CerAMGlass. Finally, I had the
chance to travel to a wonderful country, visit many beautiful places, learn about a lot of different traditions and also try new intriguing foods. I am truly grateful to the committee members for coordinating so well this event, giving all of us the possibility to connect, learn and share knowledge.
I can't wait to attend the next edition of yCAM Forum in Toulouse in 2025!

Why Crystal Structure Matters: Decoding the Performance of Calcium Phosphate Biomaterials
In the world of calcium phosphate biomaterials, crystal structure is often the silent driver behind a material’s success—or failure. Whether we are developing bone graft substitutes or studying bioceramic interactions at the tissue interface, understanding the underlying crystal lattice isn’t just helpful—it’s essential.
