Head of Advanced Materials in Lucideon, UK

Title of the talk: Driving Innovation in Ceramic Matrix Composites: Experiences Across Multiple Projects

Joining Lucideon in February 2026, Virtudes Rubio brings over 14 years of experience in ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), with a career spanning both academia and industry. Her technical background was developed through research and leadership roles at the University of Birmingham and the National Composites Centre (NCC), where she worked on advanced oxide, SiC-based, and ultra-high-temperature CMC systems across a range of processing routes and applications.

Virtudes combines deep materials science expertise with strong hands-on project leadership, having led and contributed to multidisciplinary R&D programmes from early-stage development through to industrial scale-up. She has extensive experience working with industrial partners, end users, and funding bodies, translating complex technical challenges into practical and manufacturable solutions.

In her role at Lucideon, Virtudes is responsible for technical oversight and project review, resolving complex materials and processing challenges, and contributing to the strategic direction of the Advanced Materials business.
