Martina Kocijan is a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FAMENA), University of Zagreb, where she actively participates in teaching alongside scientific research. She holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering (2018) from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb, and a PhD (2023) from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb. She has served as the Head of the Metal Analysis Laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb since 2020, where she actively conducts analyses to determine the chemical composition of metal materials for undergraduate and graduate theses and in cooperation with the industrial sector. During her graduate study, she completed a six-month research mobility within the Erasmus+ program at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, Portugal under the title "C3N4-based nanohybrids for photocatalytic applications". She graduated with high honours in 2018 with the Vjera Marjanović Krajovan award for the best graduate student in Material Science and Engineering.

Her research expertise includes the preparation of novel materials for water and wastewater treatment and reuse, contaminants of emerging concern, and advanced oxidation processes. Her current research focuses on gaining more in-depth knowledge of the chemistry of carbon-based materials and their composites with metal oxides as photocatalysts in advanced oxidation technologies for environmental remediation. During her postgraduate doctoral studies, she was able to conduct some of her scientific research abroad. Under the Erasmus+ program, she spent six months at the Department for Nanostructured Materials of the Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia, where she conducted research entitled "Graphene-based nanocomposites for photocatalytic applications". She was awarded a British Scholarship Trust grant entitled "Metal oxide catalyst supported on a polymeric mesh for use in wastewater treatment: Preparation, characterization, and performance evaluation" for a two-month research stay at De Montfort University, Leicester, United Kingdom. She received the Tempus Public Foundation grant from the Hungarian government entitled "Characterization and application of TiO2/rGO composite photocatalysts" for a two-month research stay at the University of Pannonia, Veszprém, Hungary.

She is a very active and proactive person. She considers herself to be a committed and dedicated person in scientific work as well as in the work with the students and teaching. Her aim in the field of materials is continuous research that is not only scientifically relevant but will also significantly impact society and the economy.
