Hendrik Bohn is a materials scientist whose work is driven by the desire to bring about positive change in the face of climate challenges. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Hendrik's research focuses on the sustainable production of green ammonia. The three-year project, aptly named Progress, aims to pave the way for the small-scale, decentralized synthesis of green ammonia via an electrochemical route based on proton conducting ceramics (PCC), with the broader goal of replacing the Haber-Bosch process, which today contributes significantly to global CO2 emissions.

Hendrik's academic career began with a master’s degree in Functional Materials specializing in green hydrogen and batteries at the University of Würzburg. He was able to gain further experience through a prestigious internship at the CSIRO in Australia and later at Toyota in Brussels, where he worked on green hydrogen technology projects. Subsequently, a master’s thesis at Fraunhofer ISC, the largest research organization in Europe, allowed for deeper exploration of key areas of the sustainable energy transition, particularly in the research of battery technologies.

Beyond academic pursuits, Hendrik actively engages on the international stage. As an alumnus of IRENA’s Student Leaders Programme, Hendrik was representing Germany among 150 global leaders, advocating for sustainable energy solutions. Additionally, he served as a German delegate at COY17 (Youth COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, passionately sharing insights on the importance of green hydrogen with fellow youth delegates.

The commitment to climate action extends to his role as a European Climate Pact Ambassador, striving to promote environmental awareness at the European level.
