Report on 2021 yCAM meet-up
The 2021 yCAM meet-up took place on the 29th October 2021 online in Gather Town and Zoom.
The young Ceramists Additive Manufacturing Forum (yCAM) is an event and networking platform organized by EMC and supported by ECerS and the JECS Trust, dedicated to all young researchers interested in the Additive Manufacturing of ceramics.
Due to the COVID 19 situation, yCAM 2021 took place online on 29th October 2021 from 14:15 to the evening in Gather Town and Zoom.
The yCAM 2021 online meetup was organised by the yCAM Committee who is composed of Giorgia Franchin, Andrea Zocca and David Karl. It was a successful interactive event with 80 participants. There were 4 invited speakers:
- Jasper Lefevere
Researcher & Innovation Mandate at VITO NV
“3D printing of catalyst, from gram to ton scale”
- Niklas König
R&D Manager Materials at xolo GmbH
“Xolography for Volumetric 3D Printing”
- Martin Schwentenwein
Head of Materials Development at Lithoz GmbH
“Lithography-based ceramic manufacturing – From university lab to market leadership”
- Hannes Erler
Strategic Director Innovation Ecosys. at Swarovski KG
“How to connect lab-work with industry needs through innovation ecosystems”
The talks were followed by a round table and then a virtual drink took place whereby the presenters and participants were able to interact with audio and video!
We are already pleased to announce that yCAM 2022 will take place from 9th to 11th November at the University of Barcelona, Spain. More information will be available soon, but you can already book the date!

Bios of the 4 invited speakers:
Jasper Lefevere – VITO NV
Jasper Lefevere studied Bio-engineering with a major in catalytic technology at the University of Leuven. After that, he started a PhD at the University of Antwerp in collaboration with VITO, the Flemish Institute for Technological research, on the top of 3D printing of catalysts. Jasper combined his PhD with international level judo. After finishing his PhD in 2016 he participated in the Rio Olympics. Jasper continued working on the 3D printing of catalysts as a researcher at VITO with a focus on upscaling of the technology.
Niklas König – xolo GmbH
Being an organic chemist by training, Niklas König completed his Ph.D. in Precision Macromolecular Chemistry at the CNRS in Strasbourg in 2018. Thereafter, he joined Prof. Stefan Hecht's laboratories at Humboldt University in Berlin to pursue his postdoctoral studies in Photochemistry. As part of the first generation of scientists, he joined newly founded xolo in 2020 where he leads research on the novel print process and respective materials development.
Martin Schwentenwein – Lithoz GmbH
Martin Schwentenwein has a background in photopolymerization chemistry for TU Wien. After finishing his PhD thesis on “Development of Tough Photopolymers for Lithography-based Additive Manufacturing Technologies” he joined the startup Lithoz in 2012 as a materials developer and built up the R&D team there, which grew to more than 20 people as of 2021. Today, he acts as Head of Materials Development and R&D coordinator of Lithoz GmbH.
Hannes Erler – Swarovski KG
International key-note speaker with special knowledge in open innovation, inter-organizational collaboration, and strategic alliances. In his actual role “Director Innovation Ecosystems” he is connecting science and business ecosystems within the new model of “Innovation Ecosystem Logics” with a special focus on disruptive innovation and the implementation of start-up logics within corporate environments. Winner of the “Best Open Innovation Award 2015” from Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen in the category “Open Innovation Networks”. The 1960 born mechanical engineer underwent several executive trainings, among others, at the Harvard Business School and at the IMD in Lausanne.
