Materials Analysis Specialist – Glass, ceramics, coatings
Product Design organization is looking for an individual to work in its Materials Development Center. You will play a role in the development of hardware products through supporting a variety of tests and investigations in the lab.
Work to solve issues with the glass, ceramics, and coatings team and focus on failure analysis and mechanical evaluation of new materials, developing new skills around testing and characterization methods, analysis tools and equipment, and lab organization. You will be responsible for independent experimentation and suggesting next steps in projects.

Materials Analysis Specialist – Glass, ceramics, coatings
Product Design organization is looking for an individual to work in its Materials Development Center. You will play a role in the development of hardware products through supporting a variety of tests and investigations in the lab.
Work to solve issues with the glass, ceramics, and coatings team and focus on failure analysis and mechanical evaluation of new materials, developing new skills around testing and characterization methods, analysis tools and equipment, and lab organization. You will be responsible for independent experimentation and suggesting next steps in projects. Additional tasks will include thermal and chemical treatments of brittle materials. Specific activities include:
Responsibilities:
Design of experiments and evaluation of engineering problems
Propose advancements and steer investigations into new methods and tests
Operation of lab equipment
Failure analysis of brittle materials
Imaging and measuring of test samples
SEM imaging and composition characterization
Mechanical testing using an Instron or similar test apparatus
Running high temperature furnaces and applying chemical treatments
Data summarization and basic analysis
Required Skills:
Hands on lab fabrication experience
SEM/SEM-EDS experience
Experience with optical microscopy
Experience with laboratory characterization
Familiarity with basic materials science concepts
Comfortable having multiple assignments/tasks at all times
Ability to record and report data cleanly to many engineers
Excellent record keeping
Desired Skills:
Lab management and workflow development
Preferred experience with Instron for materials testing
Experience with any materials characterization techniques
Experience with CAD or design software
Estimated Min Rate: $60.00
Estimated Max Rate: $70.00
