12th March 2026 : International Day of Ceramics !
Today we celebrate the International Day of Ceramics
Dear Ceramic Community,
I send you my best wishes on the International Day of Ceramics!
Launched in 2025 by the International Ceramics Federation (ICF), this initiative aims to highlight the indispensable yet often unseen role of ceramics in modern life. From the smartphones in our hands to the medical implants saving lives, from energy-efficient technologies to the frontiers of space exploration—ceramic materials are everywhere, yet their critical contributions frequently go unnoticed by the general public.
The International Day of Ceramics seeks to change that. By showcasing the diverse applications and extraordinary properties of ceramic materials, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation for how they underpin innovation across industries. More than just raising awareness, this day aims to inspire curiosity and engagement among young minds, from schoolchildren to university researchers. The main goal is to spark interest in ceramics as a field of study and a career, strengthening the pipeline of talent for industry, academia, and research.
Through education and collaboration, we can ensure that ceramics continue to drive progress, sustainability, and breakthroughs for generations to come.
Today, we are pleased to highlight the initiatives that have been launched by some of our members for the 2026 International Day of Ceramics and encourage you to take part yourselves in this and future years!
Richard Todd,
ECerS President
